‘Duty to the fans’ stopped Ramsey dropping Chery

Chris Ramsey considered dropping Tjaronn Chery for QPR’s win against Bolton.

Chery was disciplined by the club for a petulant reaction to being substituted by the Rangers head coach during the recent 4-0 defeat at Fulham.

Ramsey, who is without the injured Charlie Austin and Jamie Mackie, was furious with the Dutch midfielder but decided against leaving him out.

“I did think about it,” Ramsey admitted. “But he came and apologised. He was frustrated, he’s a young man and he made a mistake.

“It hasn’t gone unpunished – we have to have standards at the club. So people need to know he hasn’t got away with it.

“But, on the other hand, I’ve got a duty to the fans as well as my own ego, which would have led me to deal with it differently.”

Chery responded with an impressive display and a superb goal in Rangers’ 4-3 victory against Wanderers.

It leaves them 11th in the Championship table after 10 matches.
