No approaches received for Green, says QPR boss Ramsey
Chris Ramsey says QPR have not received any approaches for Rob Green despite speculation about the goalkeeper’s future.
Chelsea were reported to be interested in Green prior to signing Asmir Begovic but did not make an approach, while other clubs have also been linked with the 35-year-old.
Green, who was recalled to the England squad in March, is in the final year of his contract at Loftus Road.
“I think there’s been rumours about Rob, but nothing has landed on my desk,” said Ramsey. “There’s been rumblings all summer, but nothing concrete.
“It’s obvious that people will talk about Rob. If you looked at him last year, and I’m not saying this lightly, I think he was world class.
“For someone of his age to have the career that he’s had and then be picked for England to be in the squad, as one of the best three keepers in the country, shows what a good player he is and how he applies himself.”
Head coach Ramsey is keen for Rangers to sign another keeper following Alex McCarthy’s recent departure to Crystal Palace.
Offers for Southend’s Dan Bentley, 22, have been rejected and enquiries about a number of other possible signings have been made.
Ramsey added: “I wouldn’t want to lose Rob. He’s fought the battle with Alex to maintain the position – which goes to show how much we think of him.
“I’m sure we’ll bring someone else in to try to take his place, because we have to think long-term.
“But if he keeps playing the way he’s playing I think he’ll fight that battle off as well.”
