McClaren hints some players are finished at QPR after cup debacle
Steve McClaren has hinted that some QPR players have no future at the club in the wake of the Carabao Cup defeat at Blackpool.
Manager McClaren made nine changes for the third-round tie at Bloomfield Road, where Rangers produced a dismal performance and lost 2-0 to the League One side.
A number of players were given chances to impress and seemingly might not get another.
Asked if he had discovered more about his fringe players, McClaren said: “Absolutely and that’s what we’ve used this cup for.
“We’ve looked at some of the players – those we can take forward, and those we can’t.”
McClaren praised Grant Hall, who came through the full 90 minutes, and Alex Baptiste, but admitted other players had simply not performed.
“I think but for Grant Hall and Baptiste, who I thought were excellent, we didn’t do ourselves justice,” he said.
“It was a frustrating night for everybody. I was frustrated on the bench. The players were frustrated on the field and of course the supporters were frustrated.
“But that’s the risk when you make nine changes and you play the fringe players.
“The younger players in there especially are very disappointed because they have high hopes of progressing into our team and in football.”

That’s why he put individual players out instead of a team to make players look bad to excuse him getting rid of them

Mr McLaren has never been a manager, only a coach. Those R’s fans who think he has turned us around need to wait a little longer. I would love to see us become a decent side, but mismanagement on and off the field over the last 10? years means finishing above the bottom 3 is success, and Steve McLaren, indeed anyone, will find that hard, and l repeat, he is NOT a manager.

If thats what this team was really used for – then fair enough. But I think this is just another excuse by McC to cover up his shortcomings. What on earth is the DofF doing these days allowing experiments to take place in cup games (looking for another job hopefully) unable to determine who is up to it on the training ground eh? you couldnt make it up..
