QPR boss Harry Redknapp has given his backing to Rob Green and ruled out an early first-team chance for Alex McCarthy.
The highly-rated and ambitious McCarthy, 24, was recently signed from Reading, giving first-choice goalkeeper Green, 34, serious competition for his place.
Green has conceded a total of eight goals in his last two away league matches and was arguably at fault for a couple of goals in Sunday’s 4-0 defeat at Manchester United.
But Redknapp has insisted he is not tempted to make a change for this weekend’s home game against Stoke.
“Rob will start tomorrow,” said Redknapp, who hopes to have midfielders Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch available again after their hamstring problems.
“Alex will bring competition for the goalkeeping spot, which is good, and I think he’s got a big future.”
