QPR looking to offload out-of-favour Leistner

QPR are looking to offload Toni Leistner before the start of the new season.

The German defender, who turns 29 next month, was signed on a free transfer from Union Berlin last summer and made captain by the then Rangers manager Steve McClaren.

But new boss Mark Warburton is unimpressed with Leistner and wants to install a new skipper.

Warburton has made it clear Leistner is not in his plans and the player has been made available to other clubs. There is every expectation he will be on the move soon.

Rangers are also looking to sell Massimo Luongo but have so far received no firm offers despite various expressions of interest.

Meanwhile, Geoff Cameron will have medical on Thursday ahead of a move to QPR.

Cameron, who recently turned 34, revealed in March that he wanted to return to west London after his season-long loan from Stoke.

Rangers have since been confident that he would reach a financial settlement with Stoke, where he has a year remaining on his contract, and move to Loftus Road on a permanent deal this summer as a free agent.

And with Cameron now on the verge of finalising his departure from Stoke, QPR are planning to complete his signing in time for him to play in this weekend’s pre-season friendly against Watford.

Rangers, who will face Stoke on the opening day of the season, signed forward Jan Mlakar, 20, on a season-long loan from Brighton on Wednesday.

But they will have to bide their time in the all-important pursuit of a more seasoned striker, just as they did last summer when targeting Nahki Wells and Tomer Hemed.

This time around Rangers are pursuing West Ham’s Jordan Hugill and have also been offered a potential deal to take Jordan Rhodes on loan from Sheffield Wednesday.

Warburton would like to bring in Scott Hogan, who previously played under him at Brentford and is not in Aston Villa’s first-team plans.

  • I think FFP is for the club. We can only spend what we generate, with our only revenue (apart from player sales) being Loftus Road we can only spend peanuts.

  • I guess leistner can’t play out from the back is why he is not wanted.
Agreed I thought he was one of the better players but new manager new playing style and if you don’t fir, out you go.
    That’s football.

  • We need to show some patience guys..
This team will not be ready on day one..
    Look at Norwich last season..

  • Can't understand how we're so skint, FFP fine was for the owners NOT the club, right? All the big earners have pretty much gone now, OK Mass is still there but we signed him from Swindon, so he ain't gonna be on PL money

Selling everyone worth anything, replacing them with loanees is NOT a long term strategy. We've sold Furlong, Smith, Freeman & Ingram for fee's this summer, yet we've spent about a tenner on a goal keeper from Scotland

Are the owners now taking money OUT of the club? Is that what's happening? Where's the money going?

  • Ok he is 29 and pops up with the odd goal, but should have scored against Watford in the FA cup. Who knows. Good luck to him.

  • Lets hope that on this occasion we get a replacement in ,Before we get rid of him, this has to be the weirdest pre-season I can remember, hopefully we don't end up being queens Park STRANGERS!!!!.

  • I think the recent low sales receipts for players achieved so far goes a long way to explain why we finished last season where we did. The fact that a few of our 'better' players still have 'no takers' speaks volumes for our squad quality.

  • What ARE we doing, not exactly the quickest but pretty solid, also still under 30.

  • Why get rid of Leistner?! He gave his all and whilst a little clumsy was solid. We're just over a week away from the season starting and don't appear to have a settled team!!
