Chile World Cup star agrees to join QPR

Chile forward Eduardo Vargas could be on his way to QPR from Napoli on loan with a view to a permanent move.

The 24-year-old, who featured for his country at this summer’s World Cup and can play up front or as a winger, is one of a host of attacking players Rangers have enquired about in recent weeks.

And Vargas’ representatives were indicating on Monday evening that he will agree to join the club, rejecting an offer from Sunderland.

He would become the second Chilean to sign for QPR this summer, with Mauricio Isla having arrived from Juventus.

Vargas joined Napoli in 2012 and is yet to score a league goal for them, but he did net three times in 17 La Liga appearances while on loan at Valencia during the second half of last season.

Meanwhile, as Rangers discuss a possible deal with Napoli for Vargas, it appears their hopes of bringing in Netherlands midfielder Jonathan de Guzman could be scuppered by the Italian club.

They were close to signing the former Swansea loanee from Villarreal but believe De Guzman is on his way to Naples instead.

QPR do, however, expect to complete the signing of Leroy Fer from Norwich.

  • Was at the Hull game.
QPR deserved to win that game or at least a draw.
There was real quality in the QPR team and in my view that was the best performance for a very long time.
The new system needs a lot of work and having Matt Phillips as right back at one point appears completely wrong.
So QPR do not have the players to sustain this system.
Simpson is a little light weight at left back/wing back but Taore was very good.
The new Chilean will take over from Simpson.
Anyway the effort and quality of QPR was there for all to see for 90 mins.
A good Hull goal decided it but that did not reflect on the general play.
Ferdinand was superb the new boys all did well, and Barton and Faurlin in midfield I felt were excellent.
So very optimistic for the new season, I saw a very good quality high standard of football which was entertaining. I think if QPR have the same commitment and belief as I now have they can do well against Spurs with a win. GVS
