Manning plays in QPR Under-23 game

Ryan Manning played for QPR’s development side on Tuesday afternoon.

Manning has not been selected for Rangers’ Championship games this season because of doubts over his future.

He is in the final year of his contract and offers of a new deal have been rejected.

The Irishman scored with a long-range strike in a 5-0 win against 10-man Ipswich at Rangers’ Harlington training ground, where Aramide Oteh scored twice but then missed a penalty.

Olamide Shodipo did manage to score from the penalty spot and QPR’s other goal was an own goal.

Todd Kane, Conor Masterson and summer signing George Thomas also featured in the game.

Rangers line-up: Brzozowski, Kane, Masterson, Gubbins (Kefalas), Hamaleinen, Manning, Bettache, Thomas (Duke-McKenna), Smyth (Alfa), Shodipo, Oteh.

Venue change

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Heston but was switched to Harlington.

QPR are set to build a new training ground at the Heston site, where the club’s academy has been based for some time.

More recently, Rangers’ development squad have also been based at Heston.

The reason is to allow for more indoor space at both sites, enabling players and staff to adhere to guidelines on social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

Rangers named a strong side for Tuesday’s match – 12 of the 14 players named in the squad currently train with the first team at Harlington.

The decision was therefore taken for two players to switch to Harlington rather than move 12 to the Heston site.

The intention is for the Under-23s to play home matches at the Heston site in future.
