QPR were yet again knocked out of the League Cup by lower-division opposition. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-0 defeat against Portsmouth.
Aside from the goals, the Scotsman was only really tested twice, diving to save low from Ross McCrorie and denying John Marquis at close range late on.
A lively presence on the right flank, Kane made several important headed clearances and bombed forward at every opportunity, although his distribution could have been better at times.
Until he brought down the dangerous John Marquis 13 minutes from time, the Rangers captain had barely put a foot wrong, looking strong in the air and making several interceptions to break up Portsmouth attacks.
The former Brentford man looks more comfortable playing alongside Leistner than Grant Hall, but there were a few wobbles, notably an untidy clearance that allowed Christian Burgess a pop at goal.
As always, Manning put in a shift – but the frequency with which he loses his man makes it obvious he is not a natural left-back and that led to the late challenge on McCrorie that earned him a yellow card.
A solid enough first start for the young midfielder, who looked confident in possession overall and also did well to win the ball back when team-mates’ passes had gone astray.
While Smith read the game well, he had greater success with shorter passes than some of his more ambitious balls – and his shooting accuracy left a fair amount to be desired.
Pugh found himself helping out Manning at times on the left, but he manoeuvred himself into good positions and, unfortunately, was unable to direct his header beyond the keeper early in the second half.
Always posed a threat with his movement and eye for a pass, as well as forcing a couple of saves from Pompey goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray before he was surprisingly withdrawn on the hour mark.
A frustrating evening for the winger who, despite linking well with Chair, found himself running up a blind alley all too often and made way for Ebere Eze after an hour.
Plenty of running from the young Slovenian forward, who produced a deft turn to set up an early chance for Chair – but then squandered his opportunity to reduce the deficit from close range later in the game.
Having picked up a yellow card soon after his arrival to replace Chair, Wells did add more potency to the front line, but thumped his only chance over the bar from 25 yards out.
Brought on in place of Osayi-Samuel, Eze had few opportunities to shine, although he was unlucky to have his left-footed finish into the bottom corner ruled out for an infringement in injury time.

Where on earth did these ratings come from - looks like someone watched a different game. For example - Liam Kelly (7) yes he made a few saves but what about the senseless yellow card??? and crazy penalty gifted by :Leistner???
