Manning’s recall by QPR is confirmed

Ryan Manning is returning to QPR

QPR have recalled Ryan Manning from his season-long loan at Rotherham, it has been confirmed.

Rangers had the option of bringing Manning back to Loftus Road in January and have done so in light of Geoff Cameron’s injury and Massimo Luongo’s involvement in the Asian Cup.

Manning was allowed to make the loan move in August because he was behind the likes of Luongo, Jordan Cousins and on-loan Stoke midfielder Cameron in the pecking order at Loftus Road.

However, Cameron has been sidelined by an ankle injury and Australia international Luongo could miss as many as seven Rangers matches depending on how far his country progress in the tournament in the United Arab Emirates.

Missing Massimo

The first of those games was the 0-0 draw against Reading on Saturday, when Steve McClaren’s side badly missed Luongo, particularly during the first half.

Manager McClaren was already minded to recall Manning, although the Irish youngster had been assured QPR would not bring him back unless he was likely to get first-team action rather than be sat on the bench.

McClaren confirmed to the Rangers hierarchy on Sunday evening that he wanted Manning back in his squad.

Manning made 18 appearances for Rotherham, scoring four goals.

He has recently been a substitute for the Millers, with his last outing for them coming in a 1-0 defeat at Bristol City on Saturday.
