Gallen: QPR don’t need a new centre-back

QPR don’t need a new centre-back, according to Kevin Gallen.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton told West London Sport last month that he wanted to bring in an experienced player in that position during the transfer window.

The club are looking elsewhere after missing out on Steve Cook, who opted to join Nottingham Forest.

Former Rangers forward Gallen said: “I think the defence has been as solid as it has been all season, with Dickie, Dunne and Barbet.

“Who are they going to drop? The only one I think they could drop is Jimmy Dunne and I don’t think he deserves to be dropped. So I don’t think it’s a massive blow.

“I think the defence is pretty solid at the moment. A shout-out to Jimmy Dunne – I think he’s been excellent in the last few games.

“He’s solid, wins his headers, competes, he’s aggressive and he’s actually got a bit of pace about him.”

Gallen was joined by West London Sport’s Dan Bennett, Ian McCullough and Ben Kosky.

They also discussed where else Rangers might need to strengthen – such as on the left-hand side or cover for llias Chair – as well as the recent wins at Birmingham and Bristol City.
