QPR beat Bristol City on penalties to reach the second round of the Carabao Cup. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the game at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.
Smart save from low Antoine Semenyo shot amid early Bristol City danger. Left marginally exposed for Famara Diedhiou’s opener, and could do little to prevent Jack Hunt’s rifled 18-yarder into the top corner of his net or Liam Walsh’s bending free-kick for City’s third.
Quite a static performance with the right-back still finding his way at Loftus Road. Caught out occasionally before being replaced by Luke Amos on the hour.
Still settling in at QPR, the French centre-half was caught on the back foot occasionally against City’s pacy attack. Any future partnership with Toni Leistner needs improvement. Shoot-out spot -ick saved by Daniel Bentley.
In place of Grant Hall, the German stopper was marginally at fault for allowing Diedhiou to slip in to put the visitor’s ahead.
Impressive first half, pressing down the left as QPR consolidated their lead. Tested City keeper Bentley with a fierce angled shot, before scoring the late spot-kick equaliser.
Lacked energy and drive to help, especially when Bristol City went 3-2 ahead.
Closed down City’s midfield at important times when they threatened to dominate. Missed his attempt in the drama of the penalty shoot-out.
Like both Ball and Smith, lacked penetration overall. Will need to show greater composure on the ball as the season progresses. Showed his class by setting up a goal though.
Worked hard as usual in midfield but tired as the game wore on and Bristol City held a grip. Replaced by Charlie Owens in the second half.
Fired the R’s in front from six yards during a period of dominance, fastening onto Pugh’s neat assist across goal. Should have made it 3-2 only to miss a virtual open goal on 55 minutes.
Grabbed an all-important equaliser in the 14th minute just after the Robins went ahead. A well-struck, composed drive from 20 yards low into the right hand corner. Crashed a fierce shot against the bar in the latter stages and won a penalty.
Came on for Marc Pugh in the team’s attempts to energise. Largely anonymous in the time he was on the pitch.
Came on for Kane as QPR pressed for a leveller. Did well in assisting the attack in the latter stages.
