Nahki Wells’ equaliser with 15 minutes remaining earned QPR an FA Cup fourth-round replay.
Twelve minutes after Joel Lynch’s own goal, striker Wells prodded home from close range following Luke Freeman’s corner to haul Rangers level.
League One side Portsmouth dominated the early part of the second half and went ahead when QPR youth product Lee Brown sent in a cross and Lynch inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net.
Rangers had made a lively start at Fratton Park, where Freeman dragged a shot well wide in the opening minute after being set up by the recalled Ryan Manning.
And Lynch nudged the ball straight at keeper Craig MacGillivray after being found by Freeman’s corner just before the half-hour mark.
R’s keeper Joe Lumley was not called upon until the final minute of the first half, pushing over a strike from Louis Dennis.
But Portsmouth were much improved after the break and QPR had a major let-off when Brett Pitman fired wastefully over after being found by Dennis.
Rangers luck ran out when they fell behind after Lynch’s error – but Wells’s seventh goal of the season means they will be in the fifth-round draw.
QPR: Lumley; Furlong, Leistner, Lynch, Bidwell; Wszolek (Smith 71), Scowen, Manning, Freeman; Oteh (Osayi-Samuel 64), Wells (Chair 90).
Subs not used: Ingram, Kakay, Hall, Cousins.

Not one of our better performances. Will do much better in the replay though.
