QPR made it four home wins in a row by crushing Rotherham at Loftus Road. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in their 5-1 victory.
There was nothing the keeper could have done to prevent Joe Newell’s stunning equaliser – and Rotherham’s ineffective front line gave him precious little else to deal with for the rest of the game.
Never placed under much pressure defensively, Furlong took the opportunity to get forward when he could and delivered some good crosses in the general direction of Matt Smith.
Again, Onuoha was rarely troubled and did the simple things well, clearing his lines and passing out from the back. A crisp finish from Yeni Ngbakoto’s free-kick to make it 5-1 in added time capped a solid display from the skipper.
Hall’s early challenge on Ben Purrington set a marker for Rangers to take control and he continued to win tackles throughout the game, looking comfortable on the ball both in defence and midfield.
Although the centre-back slid across to deny Tom Adeyemi an equaliser at 2-1, he was generally inconsistent and Danny Ward gave him the slip too easily on more than one occasion.
This was a typical performance from the Rangers left-back; tidy and unspectacular, and probably better defensively than going forward.
Freeman’s persistence, breathing down the neck of Semi Ajayi and forcing the mistake that enabled him to restore Rangers’ lead, epitomised his overall effort; full of energy, desire and a willingness to get stuck in.
A peripheral figure at times in the first half, but he improved after the break – and directed his header perfectly to score his first QPR goal.
The Frenchman is really finding his feet now. As well as netting a confident spot-kick to make it 3-1, he supplied the crosses for Luongo and Onuoha’s goals and was unlucky not to double his own tally with a volley that keeper Lewis Price did well to claw away.
As usual, strong in the air at both ends of the pitch and his precise left-foot finish across Price to open the scoring set the tone for a resounding win.
Sylla’s vision created the opening goal for Smith and in general his link-up play was good.
Having replaced Smith for the final half-hour, Washington gave Rangers a good attacking outlet with his running down the flank and was unlucky not to add his name to the scoresheet when he cut inside and fired against the post.
Lively after coming on. Might have done better with a couple of late chances as Rotherham crumpled in the closing stages.
