QPR v Burton player ratings

QPR endured a frustrating afternoon at Loftus Road against Burton. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 0-0 draw.

Alex Smithies: 6

Perhaps lucky to see Sean Scannell’s early attempt rebound off the post, Smithies produced a smart save to deny the same player later in the game – but had little else to do.

Darnell Furlong: 5

Seemed to be caught in two minds in terms of positioning and was generally given a rough ride by Scannell before making way for Matt Smith at half-time.

Alex Baptiste: 7

As the senior man in Rangers’ threadbare defence, Baptiste can take his share of credit for the clean sheet – and he very nearly broke the stalemate with a thumping volley that was deflected behind.

Jack Robinson: 6

Despite an early error when he gifted possession to Burton’s Ben Murphy, Robinson looked far tidier as the game progressed, producing a vital challenge to halt the speedy Lloyd Dyer late on.

Pawel Wsolek: 7

The Polish wide-man created two decent opportunities for Jamie Mackie and continued to present and attacking threat despite being required to operate at right-back in the second period.

Yeni Ngbakoto: 5

Pressed into service in central midfield, Ngbakoto looked ill at ease in that unfamiliar role – his passing was wayward and he was fortunate not to be booked for a couple of clumsy challenges.

Josh Scowen: 8

It’s hard to fault Scowen’s work-rate and the midfielder continues to look more assured on the ball as well, launching moves such as the one that led to Mackie’s best scoring chance.

Luke Freeman: 7

Freeman was a bundle of energy right across the park and he twice went close to putting his side ahead, as well as keeping Burton’s back line under pressure with a series of testing crosses.

Jake Bidwell: 6

This was a fairly typical afternoon for Bidwell – he was solid enough defensively and slung in his fair quota of crosses from the left flank, without ever really threatening to penetrate.

Conor Washington: 6

At times, Washington found himself smothered by Burton’s defence and his scoring opportunities were limited, but the striker always worked hard to try and bring others into the game.

Jamie Mackie: 6

Mackie must have forgotten to pack his shooting boots this time, firing an early effort into the side netting and also going astray with a couple of better opportunities as the game progressed.

Bright Osayi-Samuel: 6

The young debutant, who replaced Ngbakoto at half-time, gave Rangers some additional width and an early galloping run and cross woke the home fans up.

Matt Smith: 5

Brought on to increase Rangers’ aerial threat, Smith failed to achieve much in that regard and was lucky not to be booked for kicking out at Kyle McFadzean while on the ground.

Idrissa Sylla: 6

Having replaced Mackie in the last 20 minutes, Sylla made a nuisance of himself and might have snatched the winner deep into added time with a drive that was deflected over.
