Kevin Bond says QPR are hopeful Danny Simpson will be fit for this weekend’s trip to face Championship leaders Burnley.
The right-back picked up a knock during Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Millwall and struggled to complete the game.
He is due to be assessed later today and Rangers assistant manager Bond has admitted it would be a significant blow if Simpson is sidelined.
“He got a knock and was struggling a wee bit. He managed to get through the game but we’ll have to assess how he is,” said Bond.
“Obviously it would leave us short in that area if he weren’t to be fit, but it’s too early to say at the moment.
“He’s a resilient lad who trains hard every day and we’re hopeful it’s only a small knock and he’ll be okay.”
Manager Harry Redknapp last week admitted that he was concerned about the potential lack of cover for Simpson should he pick up an injury while Nedum Onuoha is out with a hamstring problem.
“With Nedum out I don’t know who I’d play at right-back if Danny got injured – it’s the one area we’re short in,” he said.
A win at Turf Moor would take second-placed Rangers back to the top of the table.
Their options would be limited if Simpson fails to recover in time, although midfielder Karl Henry has played at right-back for his previous clubs Stoke and Wolves.
