Bolton v QPR player ratings

QPR beat Bolton to record a first away win under manager Steve McClaren. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-1 victory.

Joe Lumley: 6

Should have prevented Bolton’s goal, allowing Josh Magennis’ free-kick to squirm underneath him. He did have better moments though, not least when producing a vital late save to deny Christian Doidge.

Angel Rangel: 7

Looked anything but a 35-year-old veteran as he offered plenty of energy and creativity on the right. Defended solidly as well.

Toni Leistner: 7

Beaten for pace on the odd occasion but was generally very solid at the heart of the Rangers defence.

Joel Lynch: 7

Ditto. Had a very good game, winning countless aerial challenges. Useful on the ball too.

QPR boss Steve McClaren:I said from day one that I like the look of this squad. I think it needed experience around it and that’s what we’ve got.”

Jake Bidwell: 6

Workmanlike as always at left-back. Did his best to cover extra ground as Luke Freeman drifted inside.

Ebere Eze: 8

Great stuff from the youngster, who is so exciting to watch when in full flow. He took his goal superbly, was involved in the build up to Freeman’s opener, and was always a threat to the Bolton defence. He also worked hard to perform the kind of defensive duties which don’t come naturally to him.

Jordan Cousins: 7

Looked sharper than in previous outings. Tried his luck with one powerful strike and got through plenty of important defensive work.

Massimo Luongo: 6

Short of his best, but Luongo’s performance suggested a return to form is coming after a disappointing start to the season. He was sloppy on the ball at times but showed glimpses of his quality during some nice passages of play by Rangers.

Luke Freeman: 7

A constant problem for Bolton drifting in from the flank. Rounded off a lovely move – which he was involved in the first stages of – to score the opening goal and was excellent throughout.

Nahki Wells: 7

Still waiting for his first Rangers goal, and will be disappointed not to have taken an early chance, but Wells again played a crucial role. He set up Freeman’s goal and a chance for Tomer Hemed in the first half, his pace and determination continually unsettled Bolton, and his overall contribution was very good.

Tomer Hemed: 8

Led from the front with a fine display of strength, movement, hold-up play and pressing defenders into mistakes. He covered an incredible amount of ground before being taken off in the second half.

Geoff Cameron: 6

Kept things tight in midfield after coming on, as did Josh Scowen when he was later introduced along with Matt Smith.
