Luongo enjoying his scoring streak for QPR
QPR midfielder Massimo Luongo is optimistic his recent scoring streak can help take his overall game to new heights.
Luongo netted for the fourth time in seven games in Monday’s 4-1 win over Norwich City – his best run since moving to Loftus Road three years ago.
That strike against the Canaries increased Luongo’s tally for the season to six, equalling the most productive campaign of his career to date.
He said: “Everyone always says if you can add goals to your game, you can kick on. I’m doing that at the moment and it feels good.
“When your form dips a little bit or you’re tired, you can find other ways to get into the game and scoring is one of them. Hopefully I can continue that and keep it as a habit.
“Sometimes it can cover your performance when you get a goal. Strikers are a prime example, you might not touch the ball for 90 minutes but then you score and you’re in the papers the next day.”
Luongo’s delicate finish against Norwich immediately cancelled out Ryan Manning’s own goal late in the first half – and Rangers went on to dominate their opponents.
Goals from Matt Smith and Ebere Eze put the R’s firmly in command before Manning scored a header at the right end to seal their victory.
‘Still on it’
That lifted Rangers to the coveted 50-point mark. But Luongo is determined not to let the season peter out as it did a year ago, when Championship status was in the balance until the penultimate game.
“I don’t think that will happen again, touch wood, and we’ll all be on each other’s cases to make sure of it,” added the 25-year-old. “We have a different group this year.
“A lot of the boys have been very involved, rather than trying out some boys who haven’t played all season or boys that have just come back from the dead and started playing again.
“We’re still on it, enjoying our football and we’ve got a good few games to go. I want to finish as high as I can on the ladder and everyone else should be the same.”
