QPR have announced the return of club legend Les Ferdinand, who has been installed as head of football operations.
West London Sport recently revealed that Rangers were set to confirm the appointment of the 47-year-old former England striker.
Ferdinand said: “It’s incredible to be back here. This club holds a special place in my heart.
“Everyone knows what it means to me, so when the opportunity to return here in this role came up I jumped at the opportunity.”
Signed from Hayes in 1987, Ferdinand scored 81 goals in 164 league appearances for Rangers and established himself as one of the country’s top forwards before leaving for Newcastle in 1995.
He subsequently had a two-and-a-half-year spell at Tottenham – the club he supported as a boy – and later worked there as a coach when QPR boss Harry Redknapp was manager at White Hart Lane.
Aware of Ferdinand’s popularity among fans, chairman Tony Fernandes has been keen to give him a role at Loftus Road for some time.
“Football has changed considerably in recent years and I firmly believe there is a role at every football club for this kind of position,” said Fernandes.
“Les is a fantastic QPR man and I know the fans will join me in welcoming him back to a place he has a great fondness for.
“The footballing philosophy and nurturing young talent are high on our agenda and Les’s experience of working with players at all levels, combined with his undoubted passion for the club, will help us build and improve.”
