Ferdinand urges QPR fans to give Ramsey time
Les Ferdinand has urged QPR fans to be patient following their team’s uninspiring start to the season.
Friday’s 4-0 defeat at Fulham led to many supporters turning on head coach Chris Ramsey, whose side are 13th in the Championship table after winning just three of their opening nine league matches.
Ferdinand concedes that Charlie Austin and Matty Phillips staying at Loftus Road has raised expectations of an immediate return to the Premier League.
But the Rangers director of football insists his previous forecast of a difficult season in which consolidation should be the club’s aim has not changed.
“It’s about patience. It’s about consolidation,” Ferdinand said.
“People were getting excited and thinking that we’re going to shoot straight back up. We’ve got no divine right to do that.
“As much as we’d love to do that, it’s about patience, about time, about getting the right personnel, and people learning about the new philosophy of the club.
“I spoke at the start of the season and said that this season would be about consolidation for us.
“Now we’ve kept Charlie and Matty, everyone thinks we’re automatically going to go back up.
“It’s changed the game in terms of people’s perceptions in that many are thinking that we’ve kept those two so should go and win the league.
“But we’ve brought 14 new faces into this football club and got rid of 16. It takes time to gel.
“Charlie and Matty are very good players and are assets for this club, but there are other faces who have come in.
“We’re doing our best to get things right. At no stage have we ever said that we’re going to be going straight back up.”
QPR’s record under Ramsey:
Played 26
Won 7
Drawn 5
Lost 14
Ferdinand previously predicted that ex-Tottenham youth coach Ramsey’s lack of managerial experience would be cited by critics should Rangers stumble.
While admitting that “no manager is safe” and that QPR’s owners “weren’t going to tell me it was a great performance at Fulham”, Ferdinand believes Ramsey will be given time.
“It’s about results, I understand that,” the former R’s and England striker added.
“I also understand that Chris isn’t a household name and we live in an instant society at the moment where people want instant results and when they don’t get them they start calling for managers to go.
“Chris is as disappointed as any supporter was on Friday night. We all were. We know that’s not the standard we want to set at this football club.
“Unfortunately we gave a performance in front of our fans and on the TV that wasn’t acceptable. It’s up to us to make sure that changes.
“We’re in this together and are trying to do the right thing for Queens Park Rangers. We knew at the start of the season what it was going to be like.”

Everyone is quick to moan and complain but think about the alternatives. No more transfers until January. So if Ramsey is sacked we have a new boss forced to work with his players and then the old story of turnover and money wasted in the next window. If we go up, the squad we have isn’t good enough so it’ll be the other old story of 10 new faces on huge wages. We’ve committed to this plan and this set-up. We have to stick with it for the season and then assess. 3 wins, 3 draws, 3 defeats. It’s hardly a crisis. As the defence clicks we’ll pick up more points. Stop thinking short-term.

Sunderland………..Relegation candidates had not won in 5 games
WBA……….complete freak result
Newcastle………Made big changes to team as they were already safe
Yeovil………..Are nearly bottom of league 2
Wolves……..We played well but Wolves keeper made 2 schoolboy errors
Huddersfield………I think we all agree we were 100% lucky
Rotherham………Struggled against the team bottom of the table
Thats the 7 games Ramsey has won in the 24 he has been in charge. Does anyone think that is good enough ? How long are we to give him Les ? until we are in League 1 or 2 ?

Some of CR team selections and subs this year have been Sunday football level. 2 defensive midfield players and 1 up front v Blackburn, Taking Chery off when 2 up v cardiff.
He is way out of his depth. We need to change things and fast, either a new manager or bring someone in alongside him.

We need to see the team and management giving the fans something to cheer about, some of the performances this season are a disgrace so cone on if you want the fans on your side give it a real go every game !!!!

Ferdinand’s neck is also on the line. He is desperate to give Ramsey more time to succeed. If it all falls apart and Ramsey loses the fans completely and goes then Ferdinand will follow.

Its not about consolidation its the fact that no one seems to know what game plan we have when we come out on the pitch. I have sat and watched games and cannot for the life of me see what the game plan is. Also playing with one striker and a midfield that just doesnt get forward to support is a complete waste of time. Ramsay has had enough time and he needs to go now and take coco the clown (Tony Fernandes) with him. At the end of last season i said i was not going to renew my ST but i did. Its a decision I am now regretting. The football under Redknapp was dire but compared to how we play under Ramsay Redknapp made us look like Brasil

We I agree with all the comments the main one to look at is Ramsey history of wins just 7 from 24 good not for me
The formation he plays 4-4-1-1 or whatever . Play players in the position that they play best in and those that don’t play well dub them or sell them Phillips is a winger creates goals only for Austin or himself so play that roll not midfielder
Austin is a striker not a defender he does his job well gets goals Ramsey dosnt need him defending or even helping out save his energy and get goals
Furlong why had he gone out on loan
Recognize a good player when they ar young play them rather than Perch
He’s past it now on good as back up
And the Asian left back play him better than kanchelsky another old timer keep him as backup the 2 fullbacks he’s not playing are great links for the forwards let’s see them make changes Ramsey
Get some pace in the team as we don’t have a midfielder of any quality playing
Furlin should go back to Sth America and Henry go back to Wolverhampton has no idea of a midfield holding player no scope going forward These 2 and Ramsey must go ASAP
Rs will not be a force if we keep rubbish on and off the field
My recommendation is get Nigel Pearson great manager but rub him the wrong way and you are in trouble
He made Leicester good luck rs

We see that Les Ferdinand is talking about consolidation this season and no one has a divine right to go up to the Championship, that is not what the fans are looking for, it’s the tactics that Ramsey is employing with one forward (Charlie Austin) and this idea of having “two holding midfield players” and we are still conceding two goals a game so it obviously doesn’t work. The ridiculous thing is Ramsey bought the JET and Polter to support Charlie Austin and they are not even on the bench, it has been said before Ramsey is a coach not a Manager, what we need is someone like Sam Allardyce who can show a bit of stability and make the right decisions.

A load of excuses! Ramsey should never have been given the job, we went down with a whimper! Cheap option from the board and going down the mates route, always a recipe for disaster!
We shouldn’t expect promotion? Les can talk about incomings and outgoings all he likes but the fact is, the current squad is one of the six best in the league, comfortably!
If we actually had a manager with knowledge of the league, had the experience to ‘go back to basics’, instead of changing nothing despite conceding two goals a game and played players in their actual position, maybe our start wouldn’t have been so bad?
Ramsey keeps blaming individual errors, but names and unchanged side every week!
Nothing less than 3 points against Bolton is acceptable, if we fail to do so, Ramsey has to go. His record is appaling, performances dreadful, absolutely no ‘style of play’ which he bangs on about, lack of tactics and absolutely no improvement from the day he walked in.
Let’s give him time though, he’s only had 8 months, a full pre season, built his own squad and got one of the most talented squads in the league.
Wouldn’t it be nice for the board to get something right for once? Maybe they can start by sacking Ramsey, whilst we still have a chance of making the playoffs. It would be refreshing for the squad, give everyone a chance rather than Ramsey’s favourites!
What’s the plan next year when we’re in this league without Austin, Phillips, Fer, Sandro, Chery and Green to name a few? It’s going to be another 15 years until we’re back in the Premier League, that’s what will happen.
Don’t mind being in the lower leagues, but don’t like being mugged off by excuses! Sort it out Fernandes or walk away and take your debt with you!

Of all of the new players to come in and ‘gel’, how many has he actually picked to play thus far?? Same team of players, and formation week in week out! How about changing things around after a poor performance and dropping players who do not perform to give incentive to players on bench? Alex Ferguson and other great managers wouldn’t hesitate. Some games CR does not even use all three subs allotted even though we might be losing?? I am behind the team and manager but am left baffled at some decisions and just hope he is learning quickly and that he has guidance from others when he gets it wrong!
