Bond hails Phillips-Austin combination

QPR assistant boss Kevin Bond was encouraged to see Matt Phillips and Charlie Austin link up to great effect at Blackpool.

Phillips scored against his former club and then crossed for striker Austin to seal a 2-0 victory that took Rangers back to the top of the Championship.

Austin has now scored 11 goals this season but has still been starved of service at times.

Bond declared: “Charlie Austin hasn’t had enough of those chances this season, but the delivery was perfect. The cross was brilliant.

“Blackpool know what Matt has to offer and in the second half he was a big threat.

“He’ll be very keen to do well for us in a side that wants to do things this season. It’s important for him, that goal.”

Rangers came through some difficult moments at Bloomfield Road to secure yet another clean sheet.

And Bond felt they thoroughly deserved their win.

He said: “We played very well in the second half in difficult weather.

“We were under pressure a lot in the first half but we earned the right to play. We’ve defended really well this season and we did that again.

“The second goal was a fantastic goal and we were worthy winners in the end.”
