John Eustace felt the decision to play Ryan Manning rather than Angel Rangel at left-back against Millwall paid off.
Manning was excellent in the 0-0 draw at The Den, where Rangers were without the injured Jake Bidwell.
Veteran defender Rangel, recently back after a long-term injury, moved across to left-back when Bidwell went off injured at Norwich on Saturday.
But the Spaniard was left out of the matchday squad against the Lions by caretaker boss Eustace, who felt the change was “justified” in light of how Manning and the rest of the R’s defence performed.
Eustace added: “Angel had his first 90 minutes in a while on Saturday and Bids is struggling with a calf problem.
“It was important we freshened it up. The left side was fantastic.”
