Kieron Dyer insists he is fit and has not joined QPR for a payday.
The former England international, 32, was recently handed a one-year contract at Loftus Road.
He was a free agent after leaving relegated West Ham, where he made a mere 34 appearances during four injury-plagued years with the east London club.
“I had the chance to go abroad and probably make a lot more money. I’m not here for that – I’m here because I’m up for the challenge ahead,” Dyer told West London Sport.
“That challenge is to help QPR come 17th or better this season – that’s the main aim – and it’s one I’m really up for, no doubt about it.
“I spoke to a few other clubs both here and abroad, but to be honest I felt I had unfinished business in the Premier League because of what’s happened in the last couple of years.
“I sat down and spoke to Neil Warnock and he won me over and sold the club to me. If he can bring a few more players in, and with the players we’ve got here, I really think we can ruffle a few feathers.”
Dyer cost West Ham £6m when they bought him from Newcastle, where he also encountered injury problems.
But the midfielder, who is set to feature in Wednesday’s friendly at Plymouth, is confident he can prove his long-term fitness and play a key role for Rangers this season.
He said: “Fitness-wise, I’m fine. I’ve trained every day during pre-season and am looking to get a run-out against Plymouth. I can’t wait to get started.”
