Dunne insists QPR can still make top two

Richard Dunne insists QPR can still win automatic promotion – but says they should forget about other teams’ results for the time being.

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Charlton was their third consecutive loss and left fourth-placed Rangers seven points behind second-placed Burnley, while Derby in third have been in great form.

R’s defender Dunne said: “Whatever luck we were having at the start of the season, it’s definitely run out now.

“We’ve obviously had a few injuries, but it’s a bad run of form we’re in and we need to stop the rot quickly.

“Now we just need to concentrate on ourselves for a month or two and not worry about how the other teams are doing.

“If we start picking up points like we should be, maybe in a month’s time we can look at the table and things will look a lot better than they are now.”

Defeat at Charlton was a big setback for Rangers.

On a more positive note for Rangers, they have a game in hand and believe Danny Simpson is close to return from a back problem.

They are also hopeful that top scorer Charlie Austin will play again this season following shoulder surgery.

“We still believe we can get automatic promotion,” Dunne added.

“The last few weeks have been disappointing but there’s still plenty of time to go and change this, but we need to do it quickly otherwise time will run out on us.

“Everyone’s down at the moment and rightly so as that’s three defeats in a row now. But we have to put it to the back of our minds and prepare for the Leeds game next weekend.”
