Brentford 1 QPR 0
Marco Djuricin’s second-half goal gave Brentford victory in the derby at Griffin Park and further weakened Chris Ramsey’s grip on the QPR manager’s job.
While the Bees celebrate their first win over Rangers for 50 years, Ramsey must wait to see if his club’s owners are willing to keep him on following another dismal showing.
After QPR’s Massimo Luongo had hit the woodwork twice in the first half, Brentford broke the deadlock 11 minutes after the interval when the excellent Alan Judge found space on the left and teed up Djuricin with a perfect low cross.
Charlie Austin returned from injury, coming on as a second-half substitute, but could not save Rangers, who have won only two of their last nine matches.
Brentford on the other hand have won four in a row under recently-installed head coach Lee Carsley.
The unlucky Luongo headed Matt Phillips’ left-wing cross against the upright and went close again when his shot from the near the left-hand edge of the penalty area beat keeper David Button and struck the far post.
But Brentford’s high-tempo start to the second half rattled Rangers, whose keeper Rob Green denied Djuricin with a point-blank save straight after the restart.
Green was unable, however, to prevent Djuricin eventually scoring the Austrian’s fourth goal since his arrival in the summer.
The under-pressure Ramsey responded by bringing on Austin but Rangers never looked like finding an equaliser.
And they lost Clint Hill, who limped off with 16 minutes remaining with what looked like a knee injury.
QPR: Green; Onuoha, Hall, Hill (Perch 74), Konchesky; Henry, Tozser; Phillips, Luongo (Hoilett 66), Chery (Austin 59); Emmanuel-Thomas.
Subs not used: Smithies, Doughty, Faurlin, Polter.
