‘Dependable’ Green hailed after QPR win
Kevin Bond hailed Rob Green after the QPR goalkeeper produced a string of saves in his team’s 1-0 victory at home to promotion rivals Wigan.
Green rescued the hosts on a number of occasions, including when he dived to his left to push away a header from Nicky Mayward in the final seconds.
It meant a 16th-minute goal by Yossi Benayoun, who was sent off in injury time, was enough to give Rangers a win that lifted them to third and cemented their position in the play-off places.
Assistant manager Bond said: “Rob has been excellent for us this season and at the back end of last season.
“He’s so dependable. I wouldn’t say we take it for granted, but we have come to expect that level of performance from him.”
In-form Wigan, managed by former Brentford boss Uwe Rosler, responded strongly to going behind and can consider themselves unfortunate not have picked up at least a point.
Bond admitted: “In fairness to Wigan, they carry a real threat, have plenty of energy and are a good side. Rob had to be at his best and made a really good save late in the game.
“It was a really good game and we’re delighted to keep a clean sheet and cement our position in the play-offs.
“The likelihood is, without wanting to assume anything, that we will be in the play-offs, so we want to get some momentum and be in good form.”
