Mark Hughes remained defiant following QPR’s draw at home to Reading, again insisting he is the right man for the job of turning their season around.
And Hughes again suggested that Rangers will not be involved in a relegation scrap later in the campaign – and have bigger ambitions than merely staying up.
They climbed off the bottom of the table courtesy of Djibril Cisse’s equaliser but are still without a league win this term.
And the under-fire manager declared: “We’re working hard on a daily basis to turn this around and we will do.
“We know the sooner it changes the better – not so much in terms of trying to stay in this league but because before the season started we anticipated having a really successful season.
“The longer this run goes on then that successful season we all anticipated is in danger and we could be in the situation we were last season.
“We don’t anticipate that happening, but there is a possibility. We’re not sticking our head in the sand. We know exactly where we are and we intend to get out of it.”
Cisse’s goal – his first in the league this season – came after Kaspars Gorkss had scored against his former club to put Reading ahead.
Rangers improved in the second half but struggled to create clear-cut chances before Cisse netted after being found by Jose Bosingwa’s right-wing cross.
“In the first half we were a little bit tentative. Credit to Reading, they forced us back and kept us in our half,” said Hughes.
“I felt we were better in the second half. We were able to get our foot on the ball, drive forward and take the game to Reading.
“We scored a really good goal and at that stage I felt we could go on and win it.”
