Stoke must pay £7m if they are to sign Junior Hoilett from QPR.
The winger has a buy-out clause for that amount in the contract negotiated when Mark Hughes took him to Loftus Road from Blackburn a year ago.
Hughes, sacked as Rangers manager last November and now in charge at the Britannia Stadium, is keen to be reunited with Hoilett before the transfer window closes.
But QPR have made it clear they are in no rush to sell and will only do so if the clause is activated.
Hoilett struggled for fitness and form last term but has made an impressive start to this season.
And R’s boss Harry Redknapp insisted: “If Mark wants him he’ll have to make the offer that would take him there.
“We don’t want to lose him. He’s started the season really well and if someone wants him they are going to have to make a big offer.”
Meanwhile, Rangers duo Andy Johnson and Alejandro Faurlin will miss Saturday’s match against Ipswich.
Faurlin is still nursing a thigh injury which kept him out of last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Huddersfield and striker Johnson has picked up a groin strain.
Out-of-favour left-back Armand Traore is also unavailable for selection.

Stoke aren't going to meet the buy out price, that's why they're looking to take him on loan.
