Cifuentes welcomes QPR’s signing of Edwards

Marti Cifuentes says QPR have done well to bring in a defender so early in the transfer window.

Ronnie Edwards was this week signed from Southampton on loan for the rest of the season.

West London Sport had revealed that Rangers were targeting Edwards, 21, after Steve Cook and Liam Morrison were both sidelined by injury.

“Credit to the club – we did a good job in terms of getting someone in very soon,” said head coach Cifuentes.

“The picture changed, unfortunately, with the injury first of Cook and then Liam Morrison.

“Both of them will be some weeks out and we cannot afford to have a situation like (the 3-0 defeat) at Swansea, where we were too short in that position.”

Edwards joined Southampton from Peterborough last summer and has made two first-team appearances for the south-coast club.

“He’s a very good player in that position and will help us a lot,” Cifuentes added.

“He’s hungry to get minutes, to show his level, and hopefully he will be a very good player for us.”
