Aston Villa have expressed an interest in Steven Caulker.
Caulker, from Hounslow, was set to train with Arsenal Kiev ahead of a possible move to the Ukrainian club.
However, Villa boss Steve Bruce has indicated that he is interested in taking the defender on trial, potentially giving him the chance of a return to the Championship.
Caulker is a free agent, having recently left Scottish side Dundee after activating a release clause in his contract.
The 26-year-old joined Dundee shortly after leaving QPR in February last year.
After being signed from Cardiff for £8m in 2014, Caulker started just 48 league matches for the R’s.
Caulker, who played for England in 2012, has spoken of battles with addiction and depression.
During his time at QPR he was loaned to Southampton and Liverpool.
He was close to moving to Russia in February 2017 but proposed switch to Lokomotiv Moscow was called off.
