Boss doubts QPR can offload Wright-Phillips
Harry Redknapp believes QPR’s only hope of offloading Shaun Wright-Phillips is a Premier League club opting to take him.
One of several big names brought to Rangers on huge wages, Wright-Phillips, 32, is available for transfer having failed to impress at Loftus Road since being signed from Manchester City in 2011.
Sunderland manager Gus Poyet, who is battling to keep his side in the top flight, was recently reported to be considering taking the former England winger on loan.
Any approach would certainly be welcomed by R’s boss Redknapp, who said: “It’s difficult. It’s only Premier League clubs who could afford to take him on his wages.
“Other clubs aren’t going to put up that type of money. There isn’t big money in this league, wages-wise.”
Redknapp has been able to ship out most of the highly-paid fringe players the club have been keen to move on.
But the likes of Wright-Phillips, who has made only nine Championship appearances this season, and Luke Young look likely to remain until their contracts expire in the summer.
“If any of them want to take a 1,000 per cent drop in wages or something, they can, but you don’t see too many doing that,” Redknapp added.
