Charlie Austin and Leroy Fer made their first appearances of QPR’s pre-season campaign as Chris Ramsey’s side lost 1-0 against Monaco in Italy.
Both players returned to training slightly later than the rest of the squad so sat out the opening game of Rangers’ trip.
Monaco were a very different proposition to the Verona Stars team beaten 10-0 by the R’s on Saturday.
Ivan Cavaleiro put them ahead on 17 minutes and they always looked comfortable, although Rangers improved during a second half in which Austin and Fer came on as substitutes.
Youngster Cole Kpekawa went close to equalising with a long-range strike and Jamie Mackie saw a low shot saved.
QPR trialists Christopher Schorch and Oscar Gobern were involved again, as were new signings Seb Polter, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin.
QPR: McCarthy; Schorch (Furlong 68), Onuoha, Caulker (Hill 68), Kpekawa (Diakite 78); Phillips (Emmanuel-Thomas 62), Luongo (Faurlin 62), Doughty (Gobern 68), Gladwin (Hoilett 68); Mackie (Austin 68), Polter (Fer 56).
