QPR boss Ainsworth backs ‘fantastically talented’ Richards

QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth hopes to get the best out of the “fantastically talented” Taylor Richards.

Richards, who is on loan from Brighton with an obligation for Rangers to sign him permanently in the summer, has started only one league game this season.

However, the 22-year-old from Shepherd’s Bush, who was on Fulham’s books and had spell at Manchester City before joining Brighton, came on as a substitute against Blackburn on Saturday..

He was signed very much as a potential replacement for Ilias Chair or Chris Willock should either be sold.

And with Willock and Chair both recovering from hamstring injuries, Richards could now be in line for a starting place.

“I like Taylor. I think he is a fantastically talented boy, I really do,” said new R’s boss Ainsworth, who signed Ebere Eze on loan from QPR during his time in charge at Wycombe.

“He is very similar to some of the players I have come across in my management career before .

“But I think with young players today there is so much more to them than what you see on a Saturday and it is our job as managers to work with them day in day out and work with them and give them clarity.

“Taylor is a fantastic player. It was a great moment on Saturday to see him on the bench, because I know how effective he can be.

“There are a few comparisons knocking around with Taylor about previous players at this club.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on the boy, but he has been at some top places and is highly thought of and highly thought of by this manager as well.”

Meanwhile, Ainsworth says Chair’s injury is not as bad as was initially feared.
