Whiley calls for home backing at Wheelchair Tennis Masters
Jordanne Whiley wants noisy home support at this year’s Wheelchair Tennis Masters to help end her terrific season on a high.
The Ickenham-based star, who received her MBE from Princess Anne last week, won the US Open singles title and the doubles at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2015.
In December, she will return to the scene of her London 2012 bronze medal winning performance when she joins the elite field of eight players at the Olympic Park for the end-of-year singles championship.
And world number four Whiley wants the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre to be packed out with British supporters to inspire her to more silverware.
She said: “I love playing in front of large crowds, especially my home crowd. The British public are so great at getting behind their athletes, so I’d appeal to them to come along and do what you do best – cheer loudly.”
“I didn’t expect so many people to come and support us at last year’s Masters, with it being the first year that it was held in London, so I was pleasantly surprised.
“I hope everyone who came last year will come back, and the increasing profile of our sport will encourage plenty to come throughout the week, too.
“It’s been an amazing year for me so far and I can’t wait to play at the Masters in December. I want to win that too in front of a home crowd.”
The last remaining tickets for the Masters are now on sale, starting from just £2 for community groups and schools up to a maximum of £15 for the weekend semi-finals and finals.
There is also a ‘kids for a quid’ scheme and activities for all the family. Tickets can be purchased at www.wheelchairtennismasters.com.
