Martin Gould missed out on a second successive title, losing to world number one Mark Selby in the final of the Gdynia Open in Poland.
Gould won the first ranking title of his career with a 9-5 victory over Belgium’s Luca Brecel 9-5 in the German Masters.
But although world number 15 Gould was once again in superb form on the way to reaching the final in Poland and took the first frame, the Leicester man then rattled off four successive breaks of more than 50 to clinch victory.
The Pinner Potter’s impressive run to the final – which included wins over Dominic Dale, Jamie Jones and Kyren Wilson – means he has qualified for the Ladbrokes Players Championship, which will take place at Event City in Manchester from March 22 to 27.
Gould, 34, had started the event in 73rd place on the European Order of Merit but his run saw him leap into the top 24.
