Martin Gould continued his good form with victory over highly-rated Michel White in the first round of the Players Championship in Bangkok on Wednesday.
The Pinner potter, who reached the semi-finals of last week’s World Grand Prix, hit a break of 55 in the deciding frame to edge past world number 17 White 4-3.
The highlight of Gould’s win was a 76 which put him 2-0 up, and although White twice levelled – at 2-2 and 3-3 – the west Londoner held his nerve.
He now faces Masters champion Shaun Murphy in Thursday’s second round, a repeat of the 2011 Players Championship final which Gould lost 4-0.
