Martin Gould’s hopes of title success at the Players Championship in Thaliand have been dashed by world number seven Judd Trump for a second successive tournament.
Gould lost 6-5 to Trump in the World Grand Prix last week and suffered a 4-2 defeat against the Bristolian in the quarter-finals in Bangkok on Friday.
The Pinner potter trailed 2-0 after a scrappy opening and, although he responded to take the third, Gould slipped 3-1 behind when Trump scored a fine 76.
World number 24 Gould once again reduced the gap to a single frame with a 60 to make it 3-2 and was well set in the sixth frame.
But Trump got over the finishing line with another 70-plus clearance.
Gould had beaten world number 17 Michael White and Masters champion Shaun Murphy to reach the last eight.
