A week after a great performance by Ruislip Eagles in the Olympic Copper box – ending with a superb win against the reigning English champions London GD – they fell to a 35-16 defeat against Salford in the National Super 8 Men’s Handball League.
After a fairly equal start, Salford slowly turned on their engines and opened up a comfortable six-goal lead at half time (16-10).
Tibor Szerencse, who had an admirable game in goal the previous week, couldn’t reproduce the same form and the Eagles too often failed to protect him.
They suffered a nightmare second half in which Salford increased their lead and prevented any chance of a Ruislip comeback.
Alex Aubard scored eight goals for the visitors but Salford were simply stronger, faster and fitter on court.
It was the Eagles’ heaviest defeat since early 2009 and once again highlighted their inconsistency.
