Ruislip Eagles guarantee European spot

Ruislip Eagles coach Marc Fayemi was delighted to see his side guarantee European competition next season with victory over Cambridge.

Two consecutive defeats had ended their Super 8 title hopes but the 36-25 win assured Eagles of third spot.

It was the first game in a month for Ruislip and they slipped 5-1 down in the opening minutes, but Lucas Carstens started finding the net to allow them to pull ahead.

Xavier Burin’s defence and goalkeeper Jeremie Boullanger helped keep Cambridge at bay and helped the Eagles establish a 16-11 half-time lead.

They lost a bit of their rhythm during the first seven minutes of the second half but after a time out and subsequent reorganisation the home side found fifth gear.

Mickael Vitello (7 goals) and Hannes Mazur (8 goals) converted their chances and the Eagles cruised to victory.

Fayemi said: “We had a good performance. Cambridge have quality players, some of them difficult to stop if you are not focused.

“We still have moments where our concentration is fading at times but overall the players did well and we are happy with this win.”

The Eagles’ next challenge comes on Saturday against Warrington Wolves in the semi-final of the EHA National Cup at the Sporthouse, Barking at 12.30pm.
