Eagles take on London rivals after Cambridge win

Ruislip Eagles will face city rival London GD in the semi-finals of the EHA National Cup after overcoming Cambridge.

Two new arrivals – centre-back Adam Pusztai and left-wing Peter Szikra – helped Eagles beat Cambridge 36-24, avenging last month’s league defeat.

After 20 minutes, Ruislip raced into a nine-goal lead at 15-6, prompting coach Marc Fayemi to give Pusztai and Szikra their debuts.

Cambridge reduced the deficit by four in the space of five minutes but Pusztai’s first goal put the west London side back on track and an 18-12 half-time lead.

The defence became stronger in the second half and the Eagles’ attack started finding gaps in the Cambridge rearguard through Joachim Ernst and Pusztai.

Stefan Bauer made multiple saves and wingers Romualdas Sakovicius and Oliver Barton converted efficiently on fast breaks, setting up the 36-24 win.

Ruislip Eagles: Bauer, Boullanger; Ernst (seven goals), Pusztai (six), Sakovicius (four), Moeckel (four), Carstens (four), Mazur (four), Crocker (four), Barton (two), Pollino (one), Szikra.
