Annabel Dimmock experienced mixed fortunes on the first day of the Junior Ryder Cup at Blairgowrie in Scotland on Monday.
The Hillingdon-born 17-year-old, hoping to help Europe win the trophy for the first time since 2006, lost her opening foursomes match.
Playing alongside Italian Virginia Elena Carta, they failed to recover from falling behind on hole five against the USA’s Sierra Brooks and Kristen Gillman, and successive wins on 12, 13 and 14 sealed a 5&4 victory.
The fourballs proved more fruitful, as Dimmock teamed up with Scot Bradley Neil to secure Europe’s fourth match win of the day.
A run of four straight birdies on the front nine opened up a five-hole lead as they outclassed Brooks and her partner Cameron Young, 6&4.
Their victory ensured that Europe only trailed 4½-7½ at the end of the opening day.
The event will be decided over 12 singles matches on Tuesday, with Dimmock the fifth player to tee off, at 9.10am, against Andrea Lee.
