Kilburn’s Ashley Theophane set up a potential world title challenge with a points victory over Steve Upsher Chambers in Las Vegas.
Welterweight Theophane, 35, was a resounding winner on all three judges’ scorecards (100-90, 98-92 and 97-93) at the MGM Grand ahead of George Groves’ world title clash with Badou Jack.
The American gave Theophane problems in the early rounds, landing with a number of heavy shots which produced swelling around the Londoner’s eye.
But Theophane had the better of the exchanges in the second half of a grueling 10-round bout, landing with an excellent hook in the sixth and dominating the final round as his opponent tired.
It was the former British champion’s fifth successive win.
