George Groves says he is determined to impress in Saturday’s clash with David Brophy and push himself further into the frame for another world title challenge.
Hammersmith’s former British, Commonwealth and European champion is looking for another chance to become a super-middleweight world champion after losing twice to Carl Froch and suffering a points defeat against Badou Jack in previous attempts.
This weekend’s fight takes place on the undercard of the world heavyweight title showdown between Anthony Joshua and defending champion Charles Martin at the O2 Arena.
It will be Groves’ second outing since the 28-year-old linked up with coach Shane McGuigan, having beaten Andrea Di Luisa in January in his comeback fight following the defeat by Jack.
“I’m feeling good, feeling sharp and looking forward to the fight,” Groves declared.
“Things in training have gone really well – I’ve been showing my skills and am looking to display them on Saturday night.
“There have been some changes and some improvements. I’m feeling sharp and want to put on a good display and then go on to that world title fight.”
Brophy, 25, is unbeaten as a professional, but only one of his 16 career wins have been by knockout and facing Groves represents a huge step up for the Scotsman.
“It’s a massive opportunity for me and I jumped at the chance of this,” Brophy said.
“I’m obviously going in as the underdog. I don’t mind that an am ready to go.”
