Groves to face Murray in world title eliminator
George Groves will face fellow Briton Martin Murray at the O2 Arena on 25 June in an eliminator for the World Boxing Association super-middleweight title.
Hammersmith’s Groves, 28, is targeting a fourth attempt to win a world title, having lost twice to Carl Froch and suffered a points defeat against WBC champion Badou Jack.
His clash with Murray will take place on the same bill as Anthony Joshua’s first defence of his world heavyweight crown, against American Dominic Breazeale
The 33-year-old Murray, from St Helens, has made four unsuccessful attempts to become world champion, losing three and drawing one of his previous title fights.
German Felix Sturm won the WBA belt by beating Russia’s Fedor Chudinov on points in February but could be stripped of the title after subsequently failing a drug test.
The IBF title is held by Groves arch-rival and fellow West Londoner James DeGale, who faces Rogelio Medina in Washington DC this weekend.
