Rajiv Ouseph enjoyed a comfortable victory over Tony Stephenson to help England crush Northern Ireland in their opening match of the Commonwealth Games.
Hounslow’s world number 27 outclassed Stephenson, ranked more than 400 places below him, at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
He cruised to a 21-5, 21-9 victory in just over 20 minutes.
Ouseph’s England team-mates completed a whitewash over their neighbours in the best-of-five rubbers match to make a perfect start to the mixed team event.
They will take on Jersey on Friday and Mauritius on Saturday in the remaining matches of the group stage.
Ouseph won silver in the men’s singles four years ago and his bid to go one better begins on Tuesday.
