Feltham’s Rajiv Ouseph won a consolation match for already-eliminated England at the Thomas Cup in China on Tuesday.
Ouseph, ranked 15th, beat world number 137 Kai Schaefer 21-14 21-9 to help his country to a 4-1 victory over Germany.
But both nations had already been knocked out of the round-robin stage, with England having suffered defeats at the hands of Malaysia and South Korea.
Ouseph was only selected for the South Korea tie, and was beaten 21-19 21-19 by world number nine Son Wan-ho.
