Commonwealth team silver for Ouseph
Rajiv Ouseph and his England colleagues had to settle for silver at the Commonwealth Games after they were beaten by Malaysia in the mixed team final.
Hounslow’s Ouseph also saw his 100 per cent record at this year’s Games ended when he was beaten in the men’s singles rubber by Chong Wei Feng.
England were 1-0 up in the tie, after a mixed doubles win by Chris and Gabrielle Adcock, when Ouseph looked to put them a step closer to gold.
In a tight tussle which lasted more than an hour, world number 18 Chong – ranked nine places above Ouseph – took the first game 21-17.
Ouseph hit back, edging the next game 21-19, to give the west Londoner hope, but Chong emerged triumphant in the deciding game on the fourth match point.
Attentions now turn to the start of the men’s singles on Tuesday when Ouseph takes on 15-year-old Chongo Mulenga of Zambia.
