Farah vows to learn lessons of Istanbul
Mo Farah believes his controversy-hit appearance at the World Indoor Championships has taught him more crucial lessons after he missed out on a medal in Istanbul.
The Twickenham runner finished fourth in the 3000m after colliding with Kenya’s Edwin Soi.
He was awarded the bronze medal after Soi was disqualified but that decision was reversed following an appeal by the Kenyan, and Farah had no opportunity for a further appeal.
Farah did not speak to the media after the appeals but retweeted a message from his representatives Pace Sports Management that ended: “He is a champion and will be back stronger”.
Farah, who is targeting Olympic gold in the 5000m and 1000m at London 2012, went for home with almost three laps remaining in Turkey but did not have the legs to hold off American Bernard Legat, who won his third world indoor title.
A collision with Soi saw him step off the track but it was doubtful whether he would have managed to outsprint the Kenyan to the line.
“It came down to the last lap really,” he admitted immediately afterwards.
“As I was coming through I got blocked in and I tried to change again and fight through the line but it wasn’t enough.
“It was all about tactics and speed and that proves again that you can’t take anything for granted.
“I’ve just got to keep working hard. The good thing is that this isn’t in the Olympics so it’s all a learning curve.”
