Mo Farah has pulled out of the Commonwealth Games after failing to shake off illness.
Hounslow’s double Olympic gold medallist was due to compete for England in the 5,000 and 10,000m in Glasgow.
However, the 31-year-old, who is still suffering the after-effects of a sickness bug, will stay at his US training base in an attempt to recover for next month’s European Championships in Zurich.
Farah had withdrawn from the Diamond League meeting in Glasgow due to illness, and said the Games had come a few weeks too soon for him.
In March, he collapsed after completing the New York City Half Marathon and four weeks later came eighth on his London Marathon debut.
Last year, Farah repeated his Olympic double over the two events at the World Championship, having already broken Steve Cram’s 28-year-old 1500m British record.
