Mo Farah claimed his fourth world title as he outlasted his rivals on the final lap of the 10,000m at Beijing’s Bird’s Nest stadium.
Hounslow’s double Olympic gold medallist was almost tripped on a couple of occasions while he gradually moved through the field in the closing stages.
He hit the front in the penultimate lap and was involved in a tussle with Kenyans Geoffrey Kamworor and Paul Tanui coming into the last bend.
But Farah produced a kick finish that neither could cope with and puts him on course for another World Championship double, with the 5,000m final next Saturday.
Acton long jumper Dan Bramble, West Drayton 800m runner Shelayna Oskan-Clarke and ex-Middlesex Schools sprinter Bianca Williams are also in action in Beijing over the next week.
