Hayes & Yeading star Williams leaves
Highly-rated midfielder Luke Williams has left Hayes & Yeading United and signed for Margate.
The 24-year-old, out of contract following United’s relegation from the Conference South, was strongly linked with a move into the Football League in January.
But he has now agreed a deal with the ambitious Ryman Premier Division club, managed by ex-Hayes boss Terry Brown, who are expected to be among the favourites for promotion next season.
Brown also took Charlie Wassmer from Hayes & Yeading in February, but the centre-back was suspended by the club in April for allegedly headbutting Carshalton’s Lewis Taylor.
Williams joined United in July 2011 and last December passed 100 appearances for the club.
In late 2011 he trained with Swansea City, then managed by Brendan Rodgers, who had coached Williams as a youngster at Reading.
He was being monitored by League scouts this season but a mooted move failed to materialise during the transfer window.
